Featured Breeder! Oyama Koi Farm

From Rejected to Remarkable: Aragoke Koi Makes History

The journey of Aragoke Koi is nothing short of amazing. What was once a discarded variety has now become a star in the spotlight. It all started with Ikarashi Koi Farm, the pioneers of this unique breed. In Hiroshima, Mr. Oyama took the baton and passionately worked to refine Aragoke into something truly special.

And now, the results speak for themselves — an Aragoke Koi has won the prestigious Tsubaki Prize at the All Japan Koi Show. This is a huge moment for the variety and for the breeders who believed in its potential.

Mr. Oyama’s vision is to create koi that not only grow big, but also display bold, evenly spaced scales. The award-winning Koi on the left is the perfect example of that dream brought to life.

Tosai - (TOH sye) - In its first year - up to one year old; is referring to koi age. When you buy tosai koi, you are purchasing it due to the lineage and future potential the koi has to grow big.

Selecting tosai can be difficult because the koi are at such a young age and not fully developed so it can be complicated to predict their final appearance. Look at koi lineage and consult an expert to determine if the koi has potential to be a jumbo tosai koi.
