History Of Kikusui 菊翠

Kikusui is the name given to the doitsu (scaleless) version of a Hariwake with an orange or red pattern.

In general, Kikusui is the name used to refer to Doitsu Hariwake that possess a rich and vibrant orange color.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A KIKUSUI 菊翠

The bright, platinum-white base color of Kikusui is essential, similar to that of scaled Hariwake. The base white should have no yellowish tint, and there should be few or no blemishes. Likewise, the orange patterns should be vibrant and deep, and the colors and shades should be consistent throughout.

The ideal Kikusui also has a clean, blemish-free platinum-colored head, with no orange intruding downward. The orange, however, does not ruin a Kikusui if it covers a portion of the head (versus the entire head).

The fins should be solid and have a metallic-white color similar to that of the body.
